BMAC receives grant to bring art, music to area Head Start programs

BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro Museum & Art Center recently received a $3,000 grant from the Vermont Community Foundation's Spark! Connecting Community grant program.

The grant will help fund art and music instruction for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers in 15 Head Start programs around Windham County.

“We're deeply grateful to the Vermont Community Foundation for its support of our 'Head Start with Art' program, which serves several hundred of the youngest and, in many ways, neediest members of our community,” said BMAC Director Danny Lichtenfeld.

According to Lichtenfeld, BMAC has been providing age-appropriate art and music instruction in Windham County Head Start classrooms since 2001.

“It's not the first thing people think of, when they think of the contemporary art museum,” said Lichtenfeld, “but we consider 'Head Start with Art' to be one of our most important programs. We hear over and over from teachers and families that this program makes a huge difference in the lives of children.”
