Governor’s Institutes seeks applicants for winter sessions

The Governor's Institutes of Vermont is accepting applications for its popular Winter Weekends.

Motivated Vermont high school students are welcome to dive deep into advanced study in any of 10 topics, all while having fun and meeting new and like-minded peers. Applications are considered on a rolling basis.

Spots can fill quickly, so students are encouraged to apply early at www.giv.org/apply.

The 37-year-old, award-winning nonprofit Governor's Institutes is best known for its many affordable residential summer Institutes throughout the state, which welcome more than 400 talented young Vermonters from all backgrounds each year.

The February Winter Weekends provide an opportunity for newcomers who are curious to get a taste of GIV and a chance for those who have attended GIV to get an extra boost of learning.

These two-day, residential learn-a-thons let students delve into advanced study in areas beyond the offerings of many high schools. They will take place at Goddard College in Plainfield, Feb. 7-9 and Feb. 21-23. Each program starts Friday evening and concludes Sunday afternoon.

A wide array of topic choices includes Writing & Film; Dancemaking; Entrepreneurial Leadership; Social Psychology; Solo Singers' Masterclass; The Art of Cartooning, Microcontrollers; Neuroscience; Astrophotography; and Space Mission Design. Course descriptions are visible at www.giv.org/winter.

GIV Institutes are guaranteed to be affordable for all Vermont families. A sliding scale aligns tuition with families' ability to pay. More cost information is at www.giv.org/winterweekendtuition.
