Applications accepted for Gateway scholarships

BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro Rotary Club will again offer college scholarships this year through its Gateway Foundation to graduating students at Brattleboro Union, Leland & Gray, and Hinsdale high schools. A combination of financial need, academic achievement and community service will be used to select each recipients, who will receive $2,000 to $3,000.

The awards will be presented in June.

In addition, the club will recognize every recipient at a meeting this summer.

The Gateway Foundation was established by the Brattleboro Rotary Club in 1986 to help deserving students to attend the college of their choice. It has given close to $500,000.

The scholarship money awarded comes from annual Rotary fundraising projects, including Christmas tree sales, as well as from community contributions.

The Brattleboro Rotary Club's Gateway Foundation scholarships are different from the scholarships offered by the Sunrise Rotary Club.

Every application must include a student application, a Parent Contribution Questionnaire, a 250-word essay on the theme “What I learned by doing community service this year,” and a current transcript of grades.
