Celebrating Windham College after 59 years

WESTMINSTER — Walter Hendricks, once known as the “Johnny Appleseed” of small colleges, had a dream in 1951. That dream was Windham College, a small liberal arts school that began in the basement of his home in Putney and grew to nearly 900 students at its peak.

In December 1978, that dream came to an end. Windham College closed its doors after graduating approximately 2,500 students. Many of those students who passed through Windham's doors remained in Vermont. As alumni, friends, faculty, and staff, our college was gone and our unique family broken apart.

But that hasn't stopped us finding one another and gathering in Putney from time to time to share old memories and hold reunions. Over the years, we have had satellite reunions all over the country, and - from time to time - close to the hall we once walked.

This year is one of those times. With the help and support of Landmark College, a Windham College reunion is being held from Aug. 27 to 29. We have heard from folks all over all over the country, as far away as Washington state, and many are planning to attend.

For further information, visit www.windham-alumni.org for the reunion schedule. If we missed finding you, contact Susan at susanpiday@mail.com or 802-387-6633 or Karen at gusgus@sover.net or 802-722-9200.
