Don Fitzpatrick is featured artist for December at Crowell Gallery

NEWFANE — Don Fitzpatrick and his pendulum drawings will return to the Crowell Gallery at the Moore Free Library, 23 West St., this December.

His new works incorporate harmonograms, using fluid art techniques he has been experimenting with over the last two years.

As described in a news release, his images are “dynamic, dimensional, abstract, and encapsulate movement.”

The gallery will host an artist reception on Saturday, Dec. 18, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., during which Fitzpatrick will be available to discuss and demonstrate the origin and features of this creative medium.

“The machines I used to generate the harmonograms for the new works focused on using the three-pendulum rotary harmonograph and a compound pendulum that swings from the rafters of my barn using a container of dripping liquid acrylic paint as the pendulum bob,” he said in a news release.

“I will have another two-pendulum lateral harmonograph as part of the exhibit, and will be bringing the larger three pendulum rotary just for the reception.”

The media in which he works includes paper marbling, alcohol inks and yupo paper, fluid acrylic paint, epoxy resin, and gel block monotype prints.

The gallery is open during library hours: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 1 to 5 p.m.; Thursdays, from 1 to 6 p.m.; and Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
