Tree collection service benefits BUHS Music Dept.
BRATTLEBORO - The Brattleboro Union High School Music Department is once again offering the Merry Mulch Christmas tree collection service to residents on three Saturdays: Jan. 8, 15, and 22.
Proceeds will benefit future music department travel.
This program, in its 31st year, is endorsed by the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food, and Markets as well as by the New Hampshire–Vermont Christmas Tree Association.
For $10, members of the band and chorus will transport undecorated trees from homes to a community garden in West Brattleboro, where they will be chipped into mulch to be used by the gardeners.
Since the town does not offer curbside pickup of trees, the service saves residents the hassle of transporting theirs.
All pickups must be arranged by calling 802-380-4550 or 802-254-6757 at least two days prior to your desired date.

BMAC presents lathe demo with Jeff Bower
BRATTLEBORO - The Brattleboro Museum & Art Center (BMAC) will present a demonstration by master wood turner Jeff Bower on Wednesday, Jan. 12 at 5:30 p.m., at HatchSpace, a community-supported woodworking facility on the corner of High and Green streets.
Bower will use a lathe to create a piece from start to finish, demonstrating each step and technique.
Bower designs and creates turned wooden art, often inspired by astronomical themes, at his solar-powered studio in southern Vermont. Nearly all of the materials used in his pieces are sourced locally, some from within 10 miles of his studio.
This event is offered in connection with the BMAC exhibit “Guild of Vermont Furniture Makers: Evolving Traditions,” which showcases innovative work by 15 members of the Guild of Vermont Furniture Makers and six collaborating artists. Tom Bodett, Timothy Clark, Greg Goodman, and Charles Shackleton led the creation of the exhibit, on view through Sunday, Feb. 13.
Admission is $5, or free for BMAC members. Space is limited. Register at brattleboromuseum.org.
