Crowell Gallery hosts exhibit by printmaker Kay Curtis

NEWFANE — The Crowell Art Gallery, located at the Moore Free Library on 23 West St., is hosting “Motifs: Again & Again 50 Years.” This “fun and fanciful exhibit,” organizers say, “celebrates over 50 years of whimsical expression” by artist Kay Curtis.

The show runs through the end of March. An artist reception will be held Saturday, March 5, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The exhibit includes more than 50 images Curtis has created using gouache, India ink, and linoleum block prints. The resulting “bold works,” a news release states, are “replete with motifs and playful images, illustrating recurring themes and patterns that span her years of expression.”

Curtis's work is influenced by her time spent with children of preschool age, “understanding how to surprise and delight her audience while layering her images with depth and meaning,” says the release.

The Crowell Art Gallery is open during regular library hours on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, 1–5 p.m.; Thursday, 1–6 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m.–1 p.m. Masks are required.
