Balint: Reading her book was a wonderful experience

GUILFORD — Recently, I glanced around at the tables of new offerings at the bookstore and saw one that intrigued me: The Girl in the Yellow Pantsuit: Essays on politics, history, and culture, by Becca Balint. The fact that Becca is the author intrigued me, and so did the title, so I added the book to my pile.

I had never read any of her columns, so I didn't know what to expect when I began reading. Three hours later, I put it down, having read it cover to cover, nonstop. What a wonderful experience!

I learned so much about social dynamics in Brattleboro and Vermont. I got deeply emotionally involved with her descriptions and analysis of local people and events. I also found myself laughing out loud often!

Later in the book, she shares her opinions and observations concerning national events and political figures - such a pleasant way to gain a deeper understanding of our town, state, and country.

Throughout this book, she treats everyone - be it the pedestrian crossing guards, the governor, or a person discovered near death on a wooded trail - with kindness and respect. It is obviously a guiding principle in her life.

Read the book, and vote for Becca!
