BRATTLEBORO — The fine-line copperplate nature etchings of Sheryl Steiger Young and the imaginative drawings of Linda Baker-Cimini are on exhibit at Gallery in the Woods, 145 Main Street, for the month of October with an opening reception on Friday, Oct. 7, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Sheryl Steiger Young first began etching nearly 50 years ago when she wanted to duplicate her art and keep her beloved works. Inspired by masters Albrecht Dürer and Martin Schongauer, her process is much the same technique they used with copperplates and a press to imprint images. Works on display are sensitively rendered portraits of animals, especially of endangered species.
According to a news release, Linda Baker-Cimini “grew up being busy having staring contests with cows, reading National Geographic magazine, and dragging large, interesting objects home to store in the pole shed for further study. [...] Her drawings depict her wonderful imagination with clean, elegant lines and delicate colors.”
