Silent auction benefits NewBrook Fire and Rescue

NEWFANE - The 20th annual NewBrook Fire Department Silent Auction is live and continues through Monday, Dec. 5. The all volunteer department, which serves the towns of Newfane and Brookline, receives only a portion of its operating budget from the two towns. The remainder is raised through year-round fundraising, such as weekly bingo, the summer barbecue, fall gun raffle, and this holiday season auction.

Wildflower Pollinator Project offers nursery kits

PUTNEY - The Wildflower Pollinator Project is offering wildflower nursery kits outside the Putney Food Co-op on Saturdays and Sundays between 1 and 3 p.m. until Dec. 31.

Kits include everything necessary to protect wildflower seeds from being eaten and from global warming. The kits produce an abundance of seedlings that can be used to repopulate gardens and habitats at a time when pollinator populations are in crisis. BF Rotary presents 'Holly Jolly Bellows Follies'

BELLOWS FALLS -The community is invited to the Bellows Falls Opera House on Thursday, Dec. 1 for a festive night of holiday-themed songs, skits, fun, and frolic at the Holly Jolly Bellows Follies. Presented by the Wild Goose Players and the Bellows Falls Rotary, this event features performances by members of both organizations designed to usher audience members of all ages into the holiday season.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m and showtime begins at 7:30. Tickets will be available at the front door and online at bellowsfallsoperahouse.com. They are priced at $10, $22, $28, and $35. The Opera House concession stand will serve light refreshments.

Tango lessons at Main Street Arts

SAXTONS RIVER - Main Street Arts dance classes return with Tango Boot Camp 201! Due to the enthusiasm for the Tango Boot Camp 101 series, MSA will hold another seven-week series through December and January.

New dancers are welcome, as teachers will review what has been learned thus far in Tango Boot Camp 101 and they will work with newcomers to catch up during the practice session that follows each of the lessons. Both couples and single dancers are welcome; no partner is needed.

Classes are only $10 for the one-hour lesson and one-hour practice following. All classes are held at Main Street Arts in Saxtons River, and will run Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m. on Dec 1, 8, and 15, and Jan. 5, 12, 19, and 26. Masks are required. For more information, go to mainstreetarts.org.

Holiday Bazaar at Guilford Church set for Dec. 3

GUILFORD - Guilford Community Church will hold its Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, Dec. 3, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with handcrafts, holiday sweets, and decorated wreaths. The popular raffle table will feature a handmade quilt, as well as an American Girl doll and accessories, Vermont products gift basket, Yamaha 76-key electric piano with stand, original artwork, gift cards to area supermarkets, and more.

Quilt raffle tickets can also be purchased via PayPal on the church website, guilfordchurch.org. In the blue menu bar on the home page, click on Holiday Raffle 2022. Be sure to include contact information. Physical tickets will be created and placed in the quilt raffle jar. Drawing for the quilt will be Sunday, December 11; drawing for all other raffle items will take place at the close of the Bazaar.

Public health, public architecture discussed at Brooks Library

BRATTLEBORO - Vermont Humanities 2022–23 season of First Wednesdays lectures continues at Brooks Memorial Library, 224 Main St., on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. Professor David Mills will present “Pandemic Architecture: Two Centuries of Disease and Design.”

Based on research interests that lie at the intersection of philosophy, religion, art, and architecture, Mills will explore how public health crises in the past two centuries have prompted changes to the buildings, skylines, and streetscapes of our cities.

Mills is a professor of interdisciplinary studies and Dean of the Core Division and International Education at Champlain College in Burlington.
