Art Among Friends exhibit on display in Newfane

Six area artists will display more than 40 pieces through June 29 at Crowell Gallery. Yes, Crowell Gallery.

NEWFANE-An exhibit of watercolors and oil paintings by Art Among Friends - Connie Evans, Alice Freeman, Kathy Greve, Laurie Klenkel, Louise Zak, and Lynn Zimmerman - opened in the Crowell Gallery on June 4.

Owing to an editing error of unusually spectacular proportions, The Commons published the wrong venue in a profile of the group and announcement of the show that appeared in the May 29 issue.

Unlike past Art Among Friends shows, this one does not have a theme, with more than 40 pieces of the local artists' recent work reflecting a variety of styles.

"We have buildings, fruit, vegetables, animals, shells, boats, skies - just a really nice mix. And our styles are all very different," Zimmerman said.

"We really are featuring the work of each one of us. [...] This is really a show where we really try to bring our best work forward," she added.

Art Among Friends previously had a show at the Crowell Gallery in 2022 and two at Brooks Memorial Library: "Bloom!" in 2023 and "Yum!" in March and April of this year.

A reception for this show will take place at the Crowell Gallery at Moore Free Library at 23 West St. in Newfane (yes, that's the correct location) on Saturday, June 8 at 1 p.m.

The paintings in the exhibit, as well as prints and cards will be available for purchase. Contact the Art Among Friends artists at ArtAmongFriends6@gmail.com.

The exhibit will be open through Saturday, June 29 during library hours: Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 1 to 5 p.m.; Thursdays, 1 to 6 p.m.; Fridays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Your editor offers apologies to all the artists, to the staff of both Brooks Memorial Library and Moore Free Library, and to writer Alyssa Grosso, who did get it right.
