Tuesday, December 17, 2024 — Issue 795

BRATTLEBORO-As usual, The Commons will not publish an edition for the last week of the year.

The next issue of the newspaper will be published Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025. Deadline for news and advertising is Friday, Dec. 27.

Because of the New Year's Day holiday, newspaper distribution will extend into Thursday, Jan. 2.

All of us at Vermont Independent Media wish our readers warm holiday greetings, a safe end of the year, and best wishes for strength, prosperity, and resilience in the months to come.

Petition brings new public conduct code to Town Meeting

BRATTLEBORO-A group of residents has successfully petitioned for a special Town Meeting to debate whether to rescind new municipal rules against such public offenses as drug use and dealing, physical threats and property damage. The local selectboard voted 3-2 for an "acceptable community conduct" ordinance in September after hearing community complaints about a 16% increase in police calls.
