BRATTLEBORO-After hearing from each of three candidates who stepped up to take the seat left vacant by Windham Southeast School District School Board Director Eva Nolan's recent resignation, the board has appointed Jessica Everlith to fill in as a Dummerston representative until the March 4 election.
Everlith, 34, also plans to run for the remaining one-year term of that seat in the annual election.
"I am honored to be appointed to the Windham Southeast School District Board of Directors and do not take this responsibility lightly," Everlith said after the appointment.
"I am committed to working with my fellow directors to craft policies and support budgets that create learning environments where students, teachers, and staff feel a sense of safety and belonging," she added. "Should the voters choose to elect me on Town Meeting Day, I will bring the same energy and commitment to this role."
Gretchen Lanterman, who, prior to the appointment, said she also plans to run for the one-year term in March, and former board member Jody Normandeau were also considered for the short-term appointment.
Nomination papers were due on Jan. 27 for the upcoming election. Candidates for the WSESD board who will be on the ballot are:
• Brattleboro representative, one three-year term - incumbent Matthew Schibley.
• Dummerston representatives, one three-year term - incumbent Deborah Stanford; one, one-year term - Jessica Everlith.
• Guilford representative - one three-year term - Jocelyn Fritts is vying with Keely Young for the seat.
