Stand together and push back on April 5

BRATTLEBORO-We are living in a moment of deep crisis for our democracy. Billionaires and political extremists are gutting the public institutions that everyday Americans rely on, undermining the rule of law and stripping away basic rights and services. It's time to stand together and push back or we may see an end to the core ideals that define America.

Our federal government plays a vital role. Through years of debate and compromise, it has built the imperfect yet critical infrastructure and social safety net that are key pillars of our democracy.

We count on the federal government for clean air and water, health care, education, and employee protections, and it cannot and should not be managed like a private for-profit business.

When billionaires like Elon Musk and millionaire politicians like Donald Trump dismantle these supports instead of working to improve them, all of us - working families, seniors, veterans, students - suffer.

That's why Brattleboro Indivisible is hosting a Hands Off! rally on Saturday, April 5, to join the National Day of Action demanding an end to the assault on our democracy and our economy and getting organized to fight back.

We'll begin gathering at 11:30 a.m. at Centre Congregational Church (193 Main St.) and hear from U.S. Rep. Becca Balint on the urgency of the moment.

At noon, we'll march through downtown to the Brattleboro Town Common, where the rally begins at 12:30 p.m. We'll hear from several local residents on the personal and devastating impact of the federal cuts and how we can fight back.

This event is part of the Hands Off! National Mobilization, a countrywide effort to say no to the billionaire takeover of our government. Our rally will be peaceful, powerful, and focused on unity, truth, and action.

We invite everyone - whether you're angry, worried, or you just want to make a difference - to join us. Bring signs. Bring friends. Bring your voice.

Let's send a message loud and clear: Hands off our schools. Hands off our health care. Hands off our democracy.
