Guilford celebrates Independence Day with annual picnic

GUILFORD-The Broad Brook Community Center and the Broad Brook Grange invite everyone to "a festive and family-friendly" Fourth of July celebration at the Second Annual 4th of July Picnic on Friday, July 4, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The day begins at 11:30 a.m. at the Guilford Center Meeting House with a reading of the Declaration of Independence, a commemorative speech marking the 250th anniversary of Paul Revere's midnight ride, and a reading of Longfellow's poem "Paul Revere's Ride."

At noon, participants will join a musical procession to the Broad Brook Community Center (BBCC) for an afternoon of food, games, and fun.

Highlights include a grilled lunch prepared by the Guilford Country Store; strawberry shortcake and watermelon provided by the BBCC board; bingo hosted by the Broad Brook Grange; crafts and free ice pops at the Guilford Free Library; classic yard games at the Guilford Playscape; live music on the BBCC porch; and a new art exhibit by Guilford artist Joan Peters.

This event is free. For more information, visit broadbrookcommunitycenter.org or email broadbrookcc@gmail.com.
