'Stuffie Sleepover' at Lydia Taft Pratt Library

WEST DUMMERSTON - On Thursday, Sept. 18, Lydia Taft Pratt Library, 150 West St., will host its second annual "Stuffie Sleepover." Children of all ages are invited to drop off their stuffed animals to the library during open hours on Thursday, 1 to 7 p.m.

The stuffie friends will stay over at the library for a night of adventures. Responsible library staff will make sure the stuffies stay out of too much trouble, because the stuffies have been known to make mischief at the library in the past.

The stuffies can be picked up Saturday, Sept. 20, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Children are invited to join a storytime at 11 a.m. with their stuffies. For questions, call 802-258-9878 or email ltpchildrensroom@gmail.com.

Windham-1 meet ups begin Sept. 20

GUILFORD - State Rep. Zon Eastes, D-Guilford, invites all Guilford and Vernon residents to his monthly Saturday morning meetings, which will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., September through June.

Alternating between the Vernon Free Library and Broad Brook Community Center in Guilford, Eastes said he hopes residents will come to these monthly meetings "to talk together, sharing concerns and ideas. There will be coffee and something to eat."

Meetings will be held at the Broad Brook Community Center in Guilford Sept. 20, Nov. 22, Jan. 10, March 21, and May 16, and at Vernon Free Library Oct. 25, Dec. 13, Feb. 21, April 18, and June 13. Find out more at zoneastesvt.com.

Putney Community Cares hosts presentation on green burials

PUTNEY - On Sunday, Sept. 21, from 2 to 3 p.m., Putney Community Cares, 54 Kimball Hill, and Center for Solace (formerly Brattleboro Area Hospice) will host a themed talk on green burial, an environmentally-friendly burial option.

The talk will also cover burial in local cemeteries, information on starting a home burial plot, how to navigate the time between death and disposition, and caring for a body and preparing it for burial.

Senior meal in Halifax

HALIFAX - On Friday, Sept. 19, volunteers will serve the monthly Senior Meal at the Halifax Community Hall. Gathering will begin around 11:30 a.m. with the starter course of spinach-cranberry salad. The main meal, which will be served around noon, will feature fresh vegetable and chicken stir fry, wild rice medley, mixed fruit salad, and a surprise dessert.

A suggested $4 donation ($5 for those younger than 60 years old) will help to support this monthly event. The historic Hall, located at 20 Brook Road in West Halifax, is wheelchair-accessible, including an accessible bathroom. Main Street Festival in Putney

PUTNEY - Discover Putney will host its second annual Main Street Festival on Sunday, Sept. 21. The event aims to bring locals and visitors alike to downtown Putney to celebrate all that makes Putney special. This is a family-friendly event with activities for all ages.

Food and drink will be available at the Putney Farmers Market (across from the Putney Food Co-op, 11 a.m to 3 p.m.); the Putney Vendor & Food Fair (on the Yellow Barn lawn, 2 to 4 p.m.); the Food Truck Roundup (next to Rod's Towing & Repair, 2 to 6 p.m.); and on the lawn of the Putney Tavern, 4 to 6 p.m.

Activities include Sandglass Theater's presentation of the puppet show "Kasper and the Cow" on the Yellow Barn Lawn at 2 and 3:30 p.m.; a Kids' Bike Race for all ages, presented by West Hill Shop on the Yellow Barn Lawn at 2:30 p.m.; live music, featuring Down in the Ground and the Stockwell Brothers Band on the Putney Tavern Lawn from 4 to 6 p.m.; and a talk by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Tim Weiner at 7 p.m. at Next Stage Arts on Kimball Hill. Learn more about Alzheimer's at Sept. 22 luncheon

BRATTLEBORO - Join Jo Cotto, senior program manager at the Vermont chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, for a free "lunch and learn" session Saturday, Sept. 20, from 11:30 to 1 p.m., at American Legion Post 5 on Linden Street.

Cotto will provide a review of both Alzheimer's and dementia, including key statistics and the populations who are at risk. Attendents can learn about the warning signs and available treatment options, and explore science-backed tips for brain health. Cotto will also present how the Alzheimer's Association helps those with Alzheimer's and dementia, and share how participants can get involved.

Harvest supper potluck in Marlboro

MARLBORO - The Marlboro Community Center invites everyone to a Harvest Supper Potluck Saturday, Sept. 27, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Activities include a meal and a door prize raffle for a basket of harvest goodies. Dinner is by donation. Guests are asked to please bring adish to share: main course, side dish, salad, or dessert. All are welcome!

Following the dinner, the Colonel Williams Inn will show Jesse Kreitzer's newest film, featuring several Marlboro sugarmakers. The screening begins at 7:30 p.m.

Hungry Lion Bike Tour set for Sept. 27

WHITINGHAM - The Hungry Lion Bike Tour in Whitingham has road, gravel, and family and walking routes available.

The Deerfield Valley Lions Club hosts a fall foliage ride followed by a barbecue and live music Saturday, Sept. 27, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., all to support the Deerfield Valley Food Pantry and the Vermont Foodbank. For more information, visit hungrylionbiketour.com.

Center for Solace offers bereavement volunteer training

BRATTLEBORO - Center for Solace will hold an eight-week training for bereavement volunteers on Wednesdays from noon to 3 p.m., Oct. 15 to Dec. 3. This is a chance to be trained and work as a bereavement volunteer and provide emotional support and companionship to individuals grieving the death loss of a loved one.

Applications for the training are accepted until Wednesday, Oct. 8, or until the training group has filled. No experience needed; space is limited. The cost of the training is $40 for materials.
