NEWFANE-Since 1970, volunteers have made the Newfane Heritage Festival in the heart of historic Newfane village a fall season destination. People will once again celebrate community, crafts, and entertainment on Indigenous Peoples Day weekend, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 12 and 13, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine.
More than 65 juried artists and craftspeople will display and sell their work in the tents set up on the Town Common in front of the Windham County Courthouse and the Union Hall.
The sound of music will fill the air on both days, and morris dancers will perform on Sunday afternoon.
Food will be served under the big tent in front of Newfane Congregational Church. The menu includes breakfast sandwiches, doughnuts, clam chowder, lobster rolls, gluten-free carrot-ginger soup, slow-roasted corn chowder, chili, baked potatoes with lots of topping options, hamburgers, bacon-cheddar cheeseburgers, hot dogs, egg salad sandwiches, potato chips, cold beverages, hot and cold local apple cider, and coffee. Desserts include pumpkin cheesecake, homemade apple pies (whole and in slices), apple crisps, and ice cream.
The Super Raffle will be held inside Union Hall and feature about 175 items, including quilts, art pieces, homemade crafts, and gift certificates to local establishments and businesses. Tickets are sold at the door and the drawings will take place starting at 3:00pm on Sunday. If winners are not present at the time of the drawing, they will be contacted that evening and can arrange to pick up their prize on Monday.
Newfane Heritage Festival memorabilia will be sold at the Church booth, including embroidered hats and fleece, short- and long-sleeved T-shirts, sweatshirts, onesies, aprons, boat totes, and cookbooks with many tried-and-true recipes.
Organizers say festival goers should leave their dogs at home for the safety of the children, festival attendees, and the artists and their creations.
Proceeds of the event go to benefit the Newfane Congregational Church, including broad community support and its missions. The Church's mission is to make a difference in lives worldwide and in their community. For more information, visit the Newfane Heritage Festival website or call the Newfane Church at 802-365-4079.
