Tiny Theater performs staged reading of ‘Other Desert Cities’

BRATTLEBORO-Tiny Theater will perform a staged reading of Act I of Jon Robin Baitz's celebrated play, Other Desert Cities Monday, Oct. 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. at ByWay Books, 399 Canal St., hosted by proprietor Severia Drake.

Tiny Theater describes itself as "a grassroots performance ensemble of trained actors dedicated to re-imagining theater as an accessible, intimate, and transformative experience." They say their ensemble is committed to community storytelling, small performances, transformative readings, and workshops throughout Brattleboro and southern Vermont.

Other Desert Cities, a 2012 Pulitzer Prize finalist for Drama that was also nominated for five Tony Awards, is "a sharp, witty, and deeply moving story" about a wealthy, politically connected family facing an explosive secret.

"This play explores family loyalty, political and emotional divides, and the stain of buried truths and the impact on family," said Rob Marcus for Tiny Theater in a news release. "Presenting the first act in an intimate setting [...] offers the audience a chance to be fully immersed in this tense, gripping family drama."
