Winter Farmers Market starts 20th season on Nov. 1

BRATTLEBORO-The Brattleboro Winter Farmers Market opens on Saturday, Nov. 1, for its 20th season, once again in Croker Hall gymnasium at 60 Austine Drive on the Winston Prouty Campus.

Their season follows directly on the heels of the last outdoor market in October. Fans of the summer market in West Brattleboro can simply follow many of their favorite vendors indoors to the only weekly indoor farmers market in the region open every Saturday, November through March.

Remember, however, that the Winter Market opens at 10 a.m., not 9 a.m., and remains open until 2 p.m. Visitors will find plenty of farms with local produce, meat, cheese, and much more, including fresh greens each and every week.

"The impact of direct farmer-to-consumer transactions at a market is greater than it might appear on the surface," market organizers wrote in a news release. "Markets serve as community anchors, positively influencing community health and wealth, resulting in more viable regional economies, increased access to fresh, nutritious food, and stronger social networks that help keep communities healthy."

The Brattleboro Winter Farmers Market welcomes SNAP/EBT shoppers, and also processes credit and debit cards. Organizers said they are "anxiously awaiting news on SNAP benefits as of Nov. 1. If all continues working as it should be, SNAP customers can match up to $20 each week with $20 in Crop Cash Coupons and an additional $20 in Crop Cash Plus through December thanks to NOFA-VT.

The Brattleboro Winter Farmers Market is sponsored by Post Oil Solutions, a local nonprofit working to promote sustainable communities. For more information, go to brattleborowinterfarmersmarket.org.
