BRATTLEBORO-Tiny Theater will do a staged reading of Act II of Jon Robin Baitz's celebrated play, Other Desert Cities, Monday, Nov. 17, from 5 to 7 p.m., at ByWay Books, 399 Canal St.
"Due to the resounding success of the Act I reading, the Tiny Theater ensemble is thrilled to present the highly anticipated Act II reading," organizers said in a news release. Severia Drake of ByWay Books will host the event, which kicks off with a quick recap of Act I to get everyone up to speed.
Tiny Theater calls itself "a grassroots performance ensemble of trained actors dedicated to re-imagining theater as an accessible, intimate, and transformative experience." They say their ensemble "is committed to community storytelling, small performances, transformative readings, and workshops throughout Brattleboro and southern Vermont."
Other Desert Cities, a 2012 Pulitzer Prize finalist for Drama, is about a wealthy, politically connected family facing an explosive secret. The production gained nominations for five Tony Awards.
"We are very excited to bring the powerful, complex dialogue of Jon Robin Baitz's work to the Brattleboro community," said Rob Marcus for Tiny Theater. "This play explores family loyalty, political and emotional divides, and the stain of buried truths and the impact on family. Presenting the first and second acts in an intimate setting like ByWay Books offers the audience a chance to be fully immersed in this tense, gripping family drama."
