Not in my name

MARLBORO-I would like to thank Rep. Becca Balint for her commentary in the Reformer on Sept. 19, taking a stand against genocide in Israel.

I appreciate her voicing what so many of us know to be true. As someone who has supported the dream of Israel as a free democracy, a homeland for Jews after so many countries turned the survivors of the Holocaust away, it pains me that I can no longer support Israel in its current form.

For more than two years I've watched in horror the devastation the Israeli government has perpetrated against an impoverished people. I will not be placated by biased publications such as the for-profit Free Press into believing the propaganda spewed by Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his supporters.

I in no way support the horrific violence Hamas perpetrated on Oct. 7, 2023. But the disproportionate response is unacceptable. Even now, after the "ceasefire," bombing continues. The U.S. must stop supporting genocide!

Tikkun olam. To repair the world. To love thy neighbor as thy self.

Not in my name!
