BRATTLEBORO-Peter Siegel, founding member of The Gaslight Tinkers, and Shawn Magee host local seasoned/touring songwriter acts on the first Sunday of every month at Marigold at 157 Main St. On Jan. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m., they will be joined by singer-songwriter and fiddler Lissa Schneckenburger for an informal round-robin with collaborations, original stories, and melodies.
Schneckenburger (lissafiddle.com) has made music showcasing everything from traditional dance tunes to original songs. Over the years, this former Mainer and present Brattleborian has blended her love of traditional music with her love of writing.
Magee is a lyricist with deep musical roots. He was known as a part of the Barbary Ghosts, a well known sea chantey singing band from the West Coast. Here in Brattleboro, Magee has been a prolific songwriter, reflecting on our times. Shawn will be joined by two other local songwriters still to be determined.
Peter Siegel (petersiegel.com, thegaslighttinkers.com) cut his teeth working with folks such as Pete Seeger, Jay Unger and Molly Mason, Judy Collins, Dar Williams, Utah Phillips, and Noel Paul Stookey of Peter Paul and Mary. He was a bandmate of bluegrass musician Michael Daves in the 1990s “New Old Time” band Underbelly.
He contributed and recorded on the Grammy Award-winning Pete Seeger album Tomorrow’s Children. His other credits include publication in Sing Out! magazine and the fiddle tune compilation, The Portland Collection, as well as appearances on the nationally syndicated radio show Etown.
The event is free, though donations will be welcome. For more information on the venue and series, visit brattleboro.com/downtown/marigold.
