BRATTLEBORO-The morris dance group “Windham” offers an introductory class at the Winston Prouty Center on Austine Drive beginning Thursday, Jan. 15, from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. The six-class session will teach the basic steps and build a repertoire of ready-to-perform dances.
“These vigorous, athletic dances have roots in Lichfield, England, and have been performed in southern Vermont for generations,” wrote organizers in a news release. “The dances feature spirited leaps into the air, energetic stick clashes, and the cheerful ringing of bells. This swaggering celebration of the season and camaraderie brings a smile to participants and audience alike.”
Instruction will be provided by folk dance experts Arthur Davis and Laurel Swift, with musical accompaniment by Andy Davis. No prior experience needed.
The registration fee is $60; scholarships are available upon request. To register, email windham@pobox.com or call/text 802-579-6360.
