DUMMERSTON-In the face of public attacks on her person and personality, we, the close friends of Liz McLoughlin, feel compelled to speak out on her behalf, just as Peter Case did so eloquently in his Reformer column this week.
We know Liz to be funny, kind, and competent. Her passionate commitment to working on behalf of Brattleboro is genuine and shines through all her work. As someone with deep experience in town planning, now with many years on the Selectboard, Liz takes positions that constituents can be certain result from her deep research and analysis and, most importantly, her ability to think not just in short-term gains, but in the long-term best interests of Brattleboro.
One of the things we admire most about her is her ability to stay the course, even when faced with personal attacks. We also admire that, as a woman, she can stay calm in the face of being told at a Selectboard meeting that she “should smile more.”
In short, we know our good friend to be decisive, smart, kind, and dedicated, with no other agenda than a well-run meeting and a well-run municipal government. She seeks no higher office than serving on Brattleboro’s Selectboard. We hope you will vote for her.
