Route 5 construction project resumes this week

DUMMERSTON — Construction is scheduled to resume this week on U.S. Route 5 from Brattleboro to Putney during daytime hours.

Crews will mobilize, anticipating their start of work on the portion of the Route 5 project from north of the Interstate 91 overpass (just south of the intersection with Bennet Drive) in Brattleboro, and progressing through Dummerston northward to Putney Landing Road.

Work to be done includes coarse milling (grinding off the top layers of pavement) to a depth of 2 inches and paving a 1/2 inch leveling course and then a 1 1/2 inch top course of asphalt. ADA evaluation of sidewalk and pedestrian crossings, sign replacement, guardrail repair and replacement, center line rumble strip location evaluation and installation, drainage work, and other highway improvements are also planned as a part of these projects.

Restricted shoulders and single-lane closures with alternating traffic patterns controlled by flaggers will be in place as needed. Weekly email updates are available by contacting Bethany Oprendek at bethany@bbo-enterprises.com.
