BRATTLEBORO-Former Brattleboro Selectboard Chair Daniel Quipp has announced his candidacy in the Democratic Party primary for the Vermont House of Representatives seat in Windham-8, following Rep. Mollie Burke’s decision not to seek re-election [story, this issue].
In an April 17 news release, Quipp said he is running “to bring steady, collaborative leadership and strong constituent service to Montpelier.“
“Brattleboro deserves a representative who listens carefully, works hard, and is focused on getting things done,” Quipp said. “I’m running to represent the entire community: working people, families, seniors, young people, business owners, artists, and everyone who wants this town and this state to be affordable, healthy, safe, and full of opportunity.”
Quipp served from 2019 to 2025 on the Selectboard, helping lead the town through the pandemic, major public safety challenges, and long-term infrastructure planning.
He is a manager at Southeastern Vermont Community Action (SEVCA), helping Vermonters navigate housing instability, high energy costs, food insecurity, and other day-to-day pressures.
Quipp said voters can expect humility, curiosity, and a willingness to collaborate.
“I have valuable experience that will help me get off to a strong start, but being an effective legislator also means listening, learning, and building relationships,” Quipp said. “I want this campaign to be a conversation with the people of Windham-8 about the issues affecting their lives and the changes they want to see.”
Quipp said his campaign will focus on affordability, housing, health care, safe communities, and protecting the qualities that make Brattleboro a place people want to build their lives.
“Too many people are working hard and still struggling,” he said. “I want to bring a practical, hopeful approach to Montpelier, one that takes problems seriously, values good information, and stays focused on making life better for the people we serve.”
Brattleboro Selectboard Chair Oscar Heller is serving as Quipp’s campaign manager.
