WESTMINSTER WEST-Many of you helped swell the numbers at the recent No Kings demonstrations in Vermont. As you saw, there was a huge pro-democracy turnout of spirited citizens across the state, nation, and world.
To stay involved between the major protest events, you can participate in other actions, such as the upcoming May Day Strong, on Friday, May 1.
The website of the national organization Indivisible announces a "nationwide day of collective action" to demonstrate our collective power as workers and consumers. This event promotes "workers over billionaires," and "expanding democracy," which also means defending free and fair elections.
The group Indivisible Greater Falls, which led the No Kings rally and march in Bellows Falls last month, want to encourage our neighbors to join in by doing one or more of these simple things to flex your economic muscle in the face of big corporations who grease the political wheels:
• Avoid shopping at mega-corporate stores and gas stations.
• Avoid using your credit card.
• Instead, shop locally, pay with cash, and let the store know that you are supporting local business on May 1.
• Buy a gift card from a local store for later use.
Indivisible Greater Falls members will be distributing small flyers with these suggestions and reaching out to local businesses. Feel free to help spread the word!
There will be a rally at noon on the Square in Bellows Falls on Friday, May 1, sponsored by Indivisible Greater Falls and Grafton, as well as voter registration at Town Hall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
