Art and the creative process is theme of new exhibit at 118 Elliot

BRATTLEBORO-“Working Theory,” a group exhibition curated by Gayle Robertson, is on display during the month of June at 118 Elliot Gallery. The exhibit, featuring the works of Robertson, Elizabeth Budington, and Leonard Ragouzeos, debuts during the Friday, June 5, Gallery Walk from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

“When we look at a single painting, we see it in isolation,” organizers wrote in a news release. “A painting is a moment in a succession of decisions; a pause in the flow of creativity; a marker of thought, idea and sometimes emotion. In this show, we look at the flow hoping to catch the thread that came through works before — it surfaced here in this piece and then carries on.”

The works in this show offer “insight into the artists’ working theory of how they have wandered, allowing the viewer a sightline into their creative process. The work they show represents an individual journey, fascinating to observe.”

The show will be open during gallery hours on Thursdays from 3 to 6 p.m. as well as during all 118 Elliot events, and by appointment. One or more of the artists will be present each Thursday. On Sunday, June 14, at 11 a.m., the artists will host a group discussion about working theory and the creative process at 118 Elliot. Refreshments will be served.
