Goodband to visit Bellows Falls July 25

Event welcomes Peace and Justice Party candidate for governor

BELLOWS FALLS-The Flat Iron Cooperative will host June Goodband, the Peace and Justice Party candidate for Governor of Vermont, for a meet the candidate event Saturday, July 25, from noon to 2:30 p.m.

In a news release, Goodband said she believes that Vermont can lead the nation toward a sustainable, just, equitable, and inclusive social and governmental system based in thriving communities, and has practical proposals for moving toward these goals. She said she wants to hear concerns and ideas from local residents.

According to Goodband, both housing and healthcare are human rights, as defined in the International Declaration of Human Rights.

She said she strongly supports full implementation of Vermont’s Universal Health Care law. She sees housing as essential infrastructure and supports having the state help people develop the kind of housing and community structures that would work for them, be affordable, and support the overall goal of thriving, sustainable communities.

Other important parts of her agenda include reducing Vermont’s greenhouse gas emissions and promoting freedoms including of speech and of the press, from fear, from want, of religion, and to be who you are are.

The Flat Iron Cooperative is a coffeehouse at 51 Square in Bellows Falls. They say they don’t support any one candidate or political party, but offer forums like this to support democracy and encourage civic engagement.
