Haley Isadora presents evening of Brazilian bossa nova, jazz, and folk at Thrush Hill

MARLBORO-Haley Isadora presents “Both Sides of the Equator,”an evening of Brazilian bossa nova, jazz, and folk from two hemispheres at Thrush Hill Stage, 314 Upper Houghton Rd., at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8.

Isadora is a singer and composer whose music explores the meeting point between jazz and Brazilian popular music. Originally from Massachusetts, she began singing professionally in Brazil where she lived between 2012 and 2018. After moving back to the States, she formed a duo with Boston-based pianist Molly Flannery in 2018. Fusing jazz and Brazilian standards with the music of Joni Mitchell, Laura Nyro, and original compositions, Isadora and Flannery produced their album Undercurrents in 2021.

She completed a master’s degree in jazz composition and arranging at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 2021. Her master’s project, Motriz, is a live-illustrated jazz suite that can be found on her YouTube channel. Her album Como Fazer uma Canção (How to Make a Song) was recorded with her band in Natal, Brazil, and released on streaming platforms in February 2024.

The band also released the EP Kissed in the Dark, as well as several original singles between 2022 and 2024, all of which can be found on streaming platforms. She continues dividing her career between Brazil and the U.S., performing in both countries.

“Haley Isadora is a genre-blending singer and composer whose music bridges the vibrant worlds of Brazilian popular music and jazz,” venue host Jesse Lepkoff of Thrush Hill Stage said in a news release. “I have performed with Haley and I can tell you that the quality of her voice, her musicality and her subtle yet colorful interpretations of bossa nova, samba, and jazz standards are truly mesmerizing. With performances on both sides of the equator and a master’s in jazz composition, Haley brings sunshine, groove, and poetic soul to every stage.”

Isadora will be accompanying herself on acoustic guitar. In addition, Lepkoff and Lisa Pack Kirschenbaum will participate with instrumental and vocal contributions.

The concert will be outdoors, weather permitting. If it rains, the concert will be indoors at the same address in the Thrush Hill Studio. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $20 and at the event. Chairs will be provided, and picnickers and blankets are welcome. Attendants may bring their own beverage to enjoy. No animals, please.

Isadora can be heard on Spotify.
