BRATTLEBORO-I would be on the fence about whom to vote for in this year’s Democratic primary for governor if not for the fact that our daughter, Emily Blistein, worked closely with Aly Richards, who was then the CEO of the child advocacy group Let’s Grow Kids.
During that time, I heard a lot about Aly — her clear vision; her ability to organize, to lead, to grasp complex issues, and to make bold decisions; and her wide-reaching understanding of the impact those decisions would make to all Vermonters.
I’m equally impressed by her across-the-board integrity, which, coupled with her focused boots-on-the ground energy, has proven she can bring people together to achieve important goals and create positive, lasting change.
Let’s Grow Kids aimed to transform Vermont’s childcare system. And Aly accomplished that by assembling a coalition of more than 40,000 Vermonters — getting a law passed that made Vermont’s childcare more affordable and available. That law has become a shining model for states all over the country.
Aly is a practical, pragmatic progressive. She’s a leader with heart. From what I’ve seen and know about her, I’m convinced she has the practical skills to tackle major state issues and the personal skills to work with others, of all stripes, to get things done.
