Richards: outstanding leadership from a young age

BRATTLEBORO-I am supporting Aly Richards in the Democratic primary for governor because she has demonstrated something that is often missing in politics: the ability not just to identify problems, but to bring people together to solve them.

I first met Aly years ago when she served as the student member of the Vermont State Board of Education while I was also on the board. Even then, she stood out for her intelligence, thoughtfulness, and ability to work constructively with people of different perspectives. She impressed me as someone who listened carefully, did her homework, and understood that lasting change requires collaboration as well as conviction.

Since then, she has backed up those qualities with results. Her leadership on Vermont’s landmark childcare legislation showed that she knows how to engage stakeholders with competing interests, build consensus, and turn good ideas into meaningful public policy.

At a time when Vermont faces enormous challenges in housing, healthcare, and affordability, that practical experience matters.

Many candidates can articulate a vision. Far fewer have demonstrated that they can translate vision into action. Aly Richards has, and that’s why she has my vote.
