SEVCA offers expanded housing ‘warmline’ hours
BRATTLEBORO — Southeastern Vermont Community Action’s (SEVCA) Brattleboro office now offers a Housing Assistance Warmline, beginning Thursday, Aug, 6, from noon to 3 p.m. at 802-246-3008.
Due to community demand for housing support during the lunch hour, SEVCA is opening a Thursday warmline — same-day callback, no appointment needed, no need to travel. Call any Thursday through Sept. 17, from noon to 3 p.m., for consultation on subsidized housing applications, housing searches, tenant-landlord mediation, housing voucher recertifications, and information and referrals.
Information is also available for financial assistance for security deposits and first month’s rent, and back rent payments to prevent eviction, determined by housing status and gross household income. Contact Financial Assistance Housing Case Manager Emily North at enorth@sevca.org.
World Breastfeeding Week celebrated at Gallery Walk
BRATTLEBORO — Join the Brattleboro Local Health Office as they celebrate World Breastfeeding Week, Aug. 1–7, during Gallery Walk in downtown Brattleboro.
Stop by their table in the Harmony Lot Friday, Aug. 7, from 5 to 7 p.m., to connect with other families and learn about local breastfeeding and infant feeding resources. They will have fun, family-friendly activities throughout the evening, including baby onesie decorating, alcohol-free mocktails, and complimentary Polaroid photos to commemorate people’s breastfeeding or chestfeeding journeys.
Everyone —those expecting a baby, currently breastfeeding or chestfeeding, supporting a loved one, or simply wanting to learn more — is welcome.
Salad supper picnic at Centre Congregational Church
BRATTLEBORO — Centre Congregational Church, 193 Main St., presents its annual Super Salad Supper Picnic during Gallery Walk on Aug. 7, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Held rain (inside) or shine (outside), feast on an assortment of meat and veggie petite sandwiches, noodles, potstickers, corn on the cob, and a variety of fresh salads, with homemade apple crisp and vanilla ice cream for dessert.
After dinner, enjoy collage-making, a sidewalk chalk contest, and a family-friendly environment with table and blanket seating. Tickets are for $15 for adults and $6 for children under 6. All are welcome.
Community jam in Newfane
NEWFANE — Join the Newfane Music Project’s Community Jam Band for an evening of live music on the Newfane Common (inside Union Hall if there’s wet weather) Saturday, Aug. 8, at 4:30 p.m.
Featuring local musicians, the Community Band will perform an energetic mix of music. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets, a picnic, gather with friends and neighbors, and enjoy an evening of music.
Blueberry Block Party in Wilmington
WILMINGTON — Southern Vermont’s annual Deerfield Valley Blueberry Festival culminates Saturday, Aug. 8, with a Blueberry Block Party on South Main Street from 5 to 8 p.m.
Summertime food, from lobster rolls to refreshing blueberry treats, will be served accompanied by Guess Method, who will be bringing the rhythm, the energy, and “all the vibes to get folks dancing in the street.” Also featured will be the annual pie-eating contest, a “messy and hilarious” tradition of Blueberry Fest.

Senior walk in Guilford
GUILFORD — The Guilford Cares Senior Walk Tuesday, Aug. 11 will take place along scenic River Road at 10:30 a.m.
Meet at the home of Linda and Steve Lembke, 2688 River Rd. (2.7 miles south of the Green River covered bridge) for a mostly shady walk along the Green River, down to the Vermont-Massachusetts state line and back.
Linda, a long-time resident of River Road, will point out historic and natural features along the route. Jim Freeman, Guilford’s road commissioner, will join the walk and speak about the many ways the highway department maintains this road and nearly 60 miles of gravel roads throughout the year. Senior meal in Dummerston
DUMMERSTON — Evening Star Grange and Senior Solutions will serve their next Senior Lunch Wednesday, Aug. 12, at the Grange Hall in Dummerston Center, with take-outs available between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., and an in-house meal served at noon. On the menu is pulled pork on a bun, corn on the cob, and cole slaw, with a vegetable quiche as a vegetarian option. Blueberry-rhubarb crisp is the dessert.

The suggested donation is $4 for those age 60 and above eating inside. For those age 59 and under and all take-outs, the suggested donation is $5.
Mahjong Party at Senior Center
BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro Recreation and Parks Senior Center is partnering with the Brattleboro Area Jewish Community to host a Mahjong Party and Tournament Monday, Aug. 24, at the Brattleboro Senior Center, 207 Main St.
The event will run from 10 a.m. to approximately 3 p.m., and is open to any players who would like to enjoy a fun day of mahjong, friendly competition, and community connection. An entry fee of $25 (paid the day of) includes lunch for all participants. In addition to a day of mahjong, players will have the opportunity to compete for prizes created by local artists.
Tournament registration is required in advance, as space is limited. Registration for the tournament will close on Monday, Aug. 17, or when full.
