WESTMINSTER WEST-The River Singers Community Choir, led by Mary Cay Brass, will start their fall session Tuesday, Sept. 22, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the Westminster West Church.
The choir, in its 36th year, is a multi-generational community choir dedicated to singing a mix of music from many lands. This season’s music will present songs of joy, love, and peace from many Eastern European countries: Croatia, the Republic of Georgia, songs from the New England shape note tradition, and much more.
Guest musician Kathy Bullock, Ph.D. — a performer, arranger, and scholar of African American traditions and Professor Emerita from Berea College as well as guest professor at Bennington College — will join the choir for a workshop of South African and African American songs.
Choir member Andy Davis will share songs from the English pub carol tradition well known in our area from the group Nowell Sing We Clear.
The River Singers describe themselves as “a lively, welcoming group of curious, enthusiastic singers. If that sounds like fun to you, come join us!”
The cost for a 12-week session is $150. If interested in joining, contact mcbrass@vermontel.net or visit marycaybrass.com.
