WESTMINSTER WEST-Plans are being made for the 36th annual Westminster West Community Fair, which will be held Saturday, Sept. 12, at Westminster West Church and around the village.
This year's parade theme is "Honoring Those Who Step Up for Rural Schools." The Grand Marshal is Westminster Town School District Board Chair Cheryl Charles. Other members of the school board, as well as students, bus drivers, administrators, teachers, paras, counselors, maintenance folks, school librarians, volunteers, sports coaches, cafeteria workers and, of course, parents are all invited to march in the parade.
There'll be the usual selection of entertainment and activities at the church from races in the morning to the talent show in the afternoon. In between, there is a chicken barbecue, and the ever popular and exclusive "Whack a Corn Cob." Don't forget to view the work of local artists upstairs or the zany vegetable creations in the foyer of the church.
It is not too early to think of what goodies in a garage or attic that can be donated to the Silent Auction or Golden Elephant. It is also not too late to join the fair committee or volunteer to help. To join in the fun, email Betsy Williams at laladust@gmail.com.
For those slightly nicer items that are no longer needed, offer them as items for the Silent Auction by contacting Cheryl Charles at CherylCharles01@gmail.com, and send her a picture of the item along with its approximate value. The Silent Auction will be held both online and at the church. Most of the business donations will be online, but on Fair Day, there will be many other auction items upstairs in the church.
Usable items - except electronics, books, or clothing, and no broken anything - can be donated for the Golden Elephant Tag Sale. To volunteer, contact Laura Williams, 802-387-2765. (Volunteers get to have first dibs on items by virtue of seeing them first.)
The Community Fair is not just an opportunity to gather together as friends and neighbors and have fun, it also provides a significant financial contribution to the Westminster West Church's annual budget for keeping the village church and community gathering center in good repair and available for community use.
