BRATTLEBORO-The Brattleboro Labor Film Festival begins Sunday, Sept. 6, at 4 p.m. at the Latchis Theatre, 50 Main St.
The festival will open with Partners, a short documentary about Starbucks worker-activists, and will continue each Sunday through Oct. 4.
Set in Buffalo, New York, Partners takes viewers behind the scenes with labor activists and shows how workers organized despite the company’s anti-union activities.
A panel discussion after Partners will include Casey Moore, one of the baristas featured in the film; local labor attorney Catherine Terrell; and worker organizers from Healthy Living, a Vermont-based grocery store. Terry Tapp, author of A Serf’s Journal: The Story of the United States’ Longest Wildcat Strike, will moderate the discussion.
Future films will focus on immigrant workers (Sept. 13), organizing for housing rights (Sept. 27), and lessons from labor history (Oct. 4). The festival is sponsored by the Vermont State Employees’ Association and Vermont AFL-CIO.
Admission to the films is by donation.
