SOUTH NEWFANE-Trump's crime spree is continuing: an illegal embargo on Cuba leading to severe suffering by the Cuban people (internationally recognized as an act of war), ICE arrests of legal immigrants and citizens continue, the quagmire in Iran, and he is doing his best to take away our voting rights prior to November.
There has not been a lot of protest action over the summer. I think that people are concentrating on protecting our elections and supporting candidates who will buck the corrupted system. (Amanda Janoo's gubernatorial run in Vermont is a noteworthy example. She deserves your suppport.)
Now organizers in Brattleboro have called for a No Kings march Saturday, Sept. 12, 10 a.m., starting at the bottom of main street, across from the Brattleboro Food Co-op, and leading up the street to the Town Common.
Whether you have been busy organizing or taking a needed hiatus from being overwhelmed by the dismal and terrifying news, this is a time to mark on your calendar to take a morning and add your voice in protest.
Many are starting to feel that protests have run their course and are of no more use. But that is not the case.
You may remember hearing about protests against Citizens Bank for funding ICE concentration camps? That campaign started late last fall, and this summer, the bank announced that it was cutting financial ties with the Geo Group and CoreCivic, two private contractors for prisons and immigration detention centers. The protests had so tarnished the image of the bank that they had to cut ties to protect their own interests.
That is the power of people working together. voices@commonsnews.org.
