WEST WARDSBORO-We purchased our home in West Wardsboro in 1998. Since then, we have continuously supported the local economy.
The folks who plow our driveway, deliver our firewood, and fill our propane tank are local firms and residents. So are our plumber, electrician, and carpenter. The company that built our porch and deck, and the company that installed our new septic system are also local.
We support our town library, shop at local stores, and eat at local restaurants. When family and friends visit, they ski and golf at Mount Snow and Stratton Mountain, and they dine and make purchases at local shops.
We are retired and live on a fixed income but have faithfully supported our adopted town.
For 28 years, we have been proud to say that we have live part-time in Vermont.
We consider it to be an incredible insult to have learned that our property taxes will likely be raised, possibly even doubled, just because our long-time home in Vermont is not our primary home.
Second homeowners and numerous out-of-state visitors contribute to much to Vermont's economy. This tax proposal is grossly unfair and extremely shortsighted.
