BRATTLEBORO-The Brattleboro Music Center (BMC) will host the ensemble Con Moto as part of its Chamber Music Series Saturday, Sept. 12, at 7:30 p.m. at 72 Blanche Moyse Way.
Con Moto, meaning “with motion,” includes a variety of musicians and groupings of instruments and performs a range of repertoire. In this concert, Con Moto appears as a string quartet, with Clara Neubauer and Masha Lakisova on violins, Zoë Martin-Doike on viola, and Judith Serkin playing cello.
The ensemble will perform five pieces: Mendelssohn’s Tema con Variazioni (Andante sostenuto) in E major, Opus 81; Haydn’s String Quartet in A Major, Opus 20, No. 6; Puccini’s Crisantemi, SC 65; selections from Dvořák’s Cypresses; and Haydn’s String Quartet in D Major, Opus 71, No. 2.
Praised for her “seductive artistry” and “rare grace” by Classical Voice North America, Neubauer has appeared at the Marlboro, Ravinia, and Taos music festivals and has collaborated with artists such as Mitsuko Uchida, Itzhak Perlman, and Steven Isserlis.
Lakisova is “one of the unique voices of her generation,” organizers said in a news release. She has appeared at numerous chamber music festivals and has collaborated with Itzhak Perlman, Miriam Fried, Marcy Rosen, and the Borromeo and Ariel Quartets.
Martin-Doike is “a versatile artist with wide-ranging musical interests,” according to organizers. She has taken the top prize in several prestigious competitions for both violin and viola and holds tenure in the viola section of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. Martin-Doike has also been featured on the National Public Radio programs From the Top and A Prairie Home Companion.
Serkin is a graduate of the Curtis Institute and a founding member of both Con Moto and the BMC’s Music School, where she still teaches. Serkin has played in several string quartets and in the Iceland Symphony and has toured extensively.
