GUILFORD-A Windham County interfaith youth group will host a lunch and information session for prospective members Sunday, Sept. 13, from noon to 3 p.m. at Guilford Community Church, 38 Church Drive. The group is for people ages 14 to 18, and parents and caregivers are encouraged to attend the session.
The purpose of the group is to build a multicultural community through friendships, fun, and service, organizers said in a news release. Brian Remer, one of the group's facilitators, described it in the release as "a dynamic multicultural club for teens who are interested in sharing their cultures and learning about each other."
In addition to small community service projects at their meetings, the group takes a week-long trip together each spring. Members recently completed a variety of service projects in Charleston, South Carolina: serving food to the unhoused, preparing care packages for children in foster care, and protecting marine wildlife.
In addition to "building leadership skills and supporting social justice," the news release said, members of the group can earn community service hours required for high school graduation.
Church affiliation or attendance is not expected.
