BRATTLEBORO-Sucka Punch Graffiti Jam, a three-day celebration of hip-hop culture, will come to Arch Street Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, Oct. 2, 3, and 4.
About 20 graffiti artists and writers, some traveling from as far away as Miami and Los Angeles, “will transform Arch Street into an evolving outdoor gallery as they create large-scale works,” organizers said in a news release. Other events will include music and dance as well as hands-on art projects.
Live graffiti painting will begin Friday, Oct. 2, at 5 p.m. during Gallery Walk. A block party and hip-hop concert Saturday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. will feature Bronze Nazareth, Homeboy Sandman, El Da Sensei, and DJs Mr. Len and Ahmad Shakir.
Artists and educators from Juniper Creative Arts will lead drop-in art activities throughout the weekend. Participants can start a graffiti sketchbook, for example, and contribute to a collaborative art installation featuring colorful pollinators. Dance teachers from StyleFX Studios in Leominster, Mass., will offer hip-hop workshops as well as performances.
People ages 13 to 17 can attend a three-hour Aerosol Art Immersion workshop Sunday, October 4, at 1 p.m. to learn style writing, character design, and the art of spray painting. Advance registration is required at bit.ly/graffiti-signup.
All the activities are free and family friendly, according to organizers at Juniper Creative Arts and the Brattleboro Museum & Art Center. For more information and the complete schedule, visit brattleboromuseum.org.
