'Haunting,' 'rootsy' folk doubleheader at Stage 33

BELLOWS FALLS-Folk singer-songwriter Rupert Wates will perform Sunday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m. at the Stage 33 Live listening room, 33 Bridge Street. The Early Risers folk duo will open for Wates.

The singer "has a great fondness for intimate listening rooms, where the focus is on connection and storytelling," organizers said in a news release, citing Wates's "haunting, eclectic blend of acoustic, melodic art/folk infused with elements of jazz and cabaret."

Wates, who is British by birth, has released 12 albums and has lived in the U.S., and performed throughout North America and Europe, since 2006.

Ashley Storrow and Putnam Smith formed The Early Risers in 2015 and frequently play at folk festivals and concert series throughout North America. Their music is "rootsy and lyric-driven," according to the news release.

Stage 33 Live is a 40-seat venue located in a former factory. The volunteer-run nonprofit focuses exclusively on experiencing live music and has no bar or food service.

Tickets are $20 at stage33live.com.
