DUMMERSTON-The Dummerston Historical Society invites the public to its quarterly meeting and 50th anniversary party Sunday, Oct. 18, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the society’s schoolhouse in Dummerston Center, adjacent to the town office.
A brief business meeting precedes a program reviewing the history of the schoolhouse, which has been moved several times and was once the town garage. The program also explores the origin and development of the Historical Society and pays tribute to the many involved in its transition over the years as it highlights the many programs and exhibits.
A sampling from its programs and exhibits will be on display, including a Bicentennial quilt created by more than two dozen Dummerston women in 1976.
Other displays include photographs of the quarries, firearms, and town neighborhoods, including the Center, West Dummerston, Slab Hollow, and others, including samples from the exhibits “Authors of Dummerston” and “Faces of Dummerston.”
Past officers, directors, exhibitors, program presenters, townspeople, and residents of surrounding towns — and all interested in learning about history — are especially encouraged to attend and to share informally their memories, stories, and memorabilia. “And, of course, save room for a piece of anniversary cake,” event organizers advise.
Dummerston Historical Society welcomes everyone; programs are free, and the building is accessible.
