Rec Dept. sponsors events for spring vacation week

BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro Recreation & Parks Department will offer the following programs during spring vacation week, April 18-22. To register, learn more about the offerings, or request accommodations for special needs, call the Recreation & Parks Office at 802-254-5808, weekdays from 10 a.m. to noon or 1 to 5 p.m., or visit www.brattleboro.org.

• Bowling Day: The Recreation & Department and the Brattleboro Bowl will co-sponsor a Bowling Day on Tuesday, April 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event will take place at the Brattleboro Bowl on Putney Road. An adult must accompany children under 10. The cost per person is $7 and includes two games, shoes, a hot dog, and a drink.

• Pitch, Hit, & Run: This is a baseball program for youth ages 7-14 and will be held on Wednesday, April 20, at 10 a.m. on the Lower Field at Living Memorial Park.

Participants hit, field, and throw for a composite point total. Local champions will advance to sectional competitions in their area. Sectional champions advance to team championships hosted by all the Major League baseball teams.

• Splish, Splash, & Swim: Co-sponsored with the Colonial Inn & Spa for children 7 and up without an accompanying adult, (and children under age 7 with an accompanying adult), this event takes place the Colonial's pool on Thursday, April 21, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Chin length hair must be in a hair tie; longer hair must be braided or under a swim cap. The fee is $3 for children and $5 for adults, and covers the use of the pool only. You must bring your own towels. Pre-registration is required by calling 802-254-5808.

• Super Bike & Fun Day: Windham County Safe Kids and the Brattleboro Police Department are co-sponsoring this event at Living Memorial Park's Multi-Purpose Area on Friday, April 22 (with a rain location at the Nelson Withington Skating Facility) from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Several exciting activities are planned, including bike registration, fun stations, and refreshments. Children should bring their bikes. Windham County Safe Kids will be selling helmets at $10 each. The first 100 helmets are free, courtesy of the Brattleboro Kiwanis Club.

• Easter Egg Hunt: Sponsored by the Recreation & Parks Department and Price Chopper for Brattleboro residents only, this event will be held Saturday, April 23, at Living Memorial Park. Children must bring a basket or other container to collect eggs, and the Easter Bunny will be there! Children 4 and under will have their hunt at 9:30 a.m., while children 5 and up will hunt at 9:45 a.m. There will be six stuffed animal prizes in each age group.
