His devotion to medicine and his young family came together on several family vacations, as he volunteered in places such as Okanogan, Wash., at the Federal Prison in Lewisburg, Pa., at an AIDS clinic in Provincetown, Mass., and at a hospital in Harrisburg, Pa., during the Cuban crisis. He spent these two-week stints covering for other doctors so that they could have vacation time. He was a kind and caring family practitioner, but he gave much more to the Granville area. They were dedicated patrons of the arts, supporting and attending art shows, concerts, and theatre throughout the area. He was an avid skier and outdoorsman, and was a well-known figure on the slopes and trails of Mount Snow. In keeping with his strong convictions, he also contributed to the the Civil Rights movement in the early 1960s. The Levines proudly stood in solidarity with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during the historic National March for Freedom in August 1963 in Washington, D.C.
