In-Sight Photography Project presents exhibit at Vermont Arts Council

BRATTLEBORO — The In-Sight Photography Project will present an exhibition of student work at the Vermont Arts Council (VAC) in Montpelier during the months of May and June. A public reception will be held on Friday, June 8, from 4 to 8 p.m.

In-Sight, the Brattleboro-based photography program for youth, is celebrating 20 years of giving local teens the tools for creative self-expression and encouraging their positive engagement in the community.

“This is a significant opportunity for In-Sight students to exhibit beyond southern Vermont, and great recognition for our youth programs,” said Sophia LaCava-Bohanan, assistant director of In-Sight.

The In-Sight show at VAC will include works of both digital and black-and-white film photography, and will include work by each student from the past year. These include landscapes, portraits, and experimental techniques.

In-Sight was invited to exhibit work in Montpelier because the program received a three-year operational grant from VAC this year. The show of student images from the past year, representing the work of more than 20 students, will be In-Sight's way of recognizing VAC's support.

“The VAC exhibition is an affirmation of our 20 years of hard work, serving local youth and offering them a medium for self expression,” said LaCava-Bohanan. “It's nice to be reaching a broader audience with this show, not just the local community that has supported us through the years, but Vermont as a whole.”

VAC is a non-profit state arts agency that functions as a community partner and a catalyst for artists and organizations to advance and preserve the arts at the center of Vermont communities.

The In-Sight Photography Project teaches photography to youth ages 11-18 throughout southern Vermont, regardless of their ability to pay.
