Investigation continues into Birge Street arson

BRATTLEBORO — A reward is offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone responsible for what safety officials conclude was a case of vehicle arson here two weeks ago.

According to Brattleboro Fire Chief Michael Bucossi, Brattleboro Fire and Police departments responded to a vehicle fire 68 Birge St. in the early hours of July 15.

After investigating the burned car, Bucossi said, a fire investigator and police detectives eliminated all other causes and deemed the fire an act of arson.

A car parked nearby also sustained damage, he said.

Bucossi said his department responds to three to four vehicle fires a year that result from arson.

Anyone with information concerning this fire is asked to call Brattleboro Police Det. Eric Johnson at 802-257-7946, or the Vermont Arson Tip Hotline at 800-32-ARSON (800-322-7766).
