Joinery to play benefit concert for Kirsten Jeppesen at NextStage

PUTNEY — Local Americana band Joinery will play at Next Stage Arts, 15 Kimball Hill, at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 19 to raise money for local cancer survivor Kirsten Jeppesen.

A $10 donation at the door is suggested. Proceeds will help defray Jeppesen's expenses stemming from her cancer treatments, and a portion will go to the Brattleboro Memorial Hospital Cancer Support Group to continue their work with cancer patients.

Colin Blazej, bass player for Joinery, met Jeppesen around 1991 when they worked together for a local environmental consulting firm. They remained friends, and when he heard this fall of her ovarian cancer surgery and treatments, he said he wanted to help.

West Hill Shop, at 49 Brickyard Lane, had helped raise funds for Jeppesen's expenses, as she is an avid biker and cross country skier. Blazej figured that bringing in more people they both knew would have an even greater impact.

Blazej says that Billy Straus and Maria Basescu of Next Stage Arts were instrumental in making the concert happen. They've donated the use of their Kimball Hill venue.

Joinery, releasing its first album this month, features John Pozzi on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Chuck Davison on lead guitar and mandolin, Andy Foster on lap steel guitar, and Blazej on stand-up bass and backing vocals.
