Blanche Moyse Chorale to hold auditions

BRATTLEBORO — The Blanche Moyse Chorale, an affiliate of the Brattleboro Music Center, is scheduling auditions for new members in all vocal sections. Those auditioning should be experienced in choral singing, able to learn music independently, and comfortable with foreign languages.

The chorale, founded in 1978, is a chamber chorus of about 30 voices striving to attain the high level of musical artistry exemplified by the chorale's original director, Blanche Moyse.

Based in the Brattleboro area, the chorale includes singers from the tri-state region and beyond. Rehearsals are held Sunday evenings at The Putney School.

In recent years, under the direction of Mary Westbrook-Geha, the chorale has performed works by Handel, Copland, Stravinsky, Mendelssohn, Britten, Palestrina, Schütz, Brahms, and especially J.S. Bach. Last year's performances were Bach's Mass in B-minor and Christmas Oratorio.

The chorale has just completed an April production of sacred works by Schütz and Mendelssohn, and is looking forward to a performance of Bach motets Nos. 1, 3, 4, and 5 on Columbus Day weekend.

Rehearsals for this project begin Sunday, May 11.
