Arts Council looks for ways to bring artists together

BRATTLEBORO — Windham County is widely regarded as a great place for artists and craftsmen to live and work, but this work is often done in relative isolation. A forum slated for May 22 aims to help area creatives connect and thrive.

“Artists Working Together!” is a project of The Arts Council of Windham County in partnership with Brattleboro-West Arts and The Works Bakery Café to help working artists and craftsmen with everything from inspiration to marketing.

The event is Thursday, May 22, from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Works Bakery Café, 118 Main St.

Sharing their experiences and insights are painter Petey Mitchell, a founder of the Windham Art Gallery; potter Alan Steinberg of cooperative ceramics studio Clayworks; and photographer Chris Triebert of Rock River Artists.

The forum will continue with questions, answers, and peer discussion.

Topics will include cooperative galleries; studio tours; regional marketing; sharing production space and equipment; business plans; making the most of potlucks; leveraging social media; and anything else in the spirit of artists and craftspeople banding together to help the creative community.

Organizers say the forum, which begins with a potluck dessert, is appropriate for artists, craftsmen, and anyone else interested in the topic.
